No doubt about it, a good night’s sleep is priceless. And if you live for high-quality sleep, then luxury linens make a worthy investment. Luxury bed linens might be pricey than your average bedding, but these linens will last you years of use! Because luxury linens cost a pretty penny, we are listing down all the important factors you should consider before making a purchase:

The Material

The material affects the texture and softness of the bed linen. It also affects the durability of the bed linen. The most common types of bedding materials are cotton, Egyptian cotton, Percale cotton, Voile, linen, sateen, and silk.

Cotton is a cool and absorbent material. Percale cotton has a tighter weave than plain cotton sheets with very high thread count. Egyptian cotton is made from high-quality cotton with a high thread count so the bedding is soft, luxurious, and very absorbent. Sateen has a slight sheen with a lustrous appearance. This material is not ideal for humid environments.  Silk sheets are hypoallergenic, smooth, and lustrous.

Linen sheets are made from the fiber of the flax plant. Because it is stronger than cotton, linen sheets will last you years of use. This material is ideal during the spring and summer season. Finally, voile is made from high twist yarn with a very tight weave of cotton. This material is lightweight though crisp.

The Thread Count

The thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch of the fabric. Usually, the thread count is used as an indicator of the quality of the bed linen. The higher the thread count, the softer, more durable the bed linen is. When the linen has a low thread count, it is prone to shrinkage. The texture of the fabric is also much rougher compared to a high thread count bed linen.

For cotton sheets, the average thread count is 150 and high-quality cotton sheets go up to 180. Any type of bed linen with a thread count of more than 250 is considered luxurious in quality.

The Size

Another important factor to consider when choosing luxurious bed linen is the size of the product. You want to select the right size to get a nice, snug fit around the mattress, pillows, and duvet. The most common bed linen sizes are single/double/King/Super King Size duvet covers and single/double/queen/king size sheets.

Pillow Sizes

Of course, the bed linen should fit your existing pillows perfectly. Pillows come in different shapes and sizes so it is critical to choose the right size. The wrong size pillowcases will affect the shape and softness of the pillow.

Care Instructions

To ensure that your luxury bed linens will last years of use, you have to know how to care for it properly. Caring for the material will depend on the design and fabric used. The bedding should come with care instruction label. The label will indicate the right temperature to wash at, the spin cycle and drying instructions. In some cases, the label will also indicate if a certain item needs professional cleaning.

As a general rule, do not iron the bed linen when damp and never wash deep colored ones with light colored items.
