Each year, rats and mice cause millions of dollars’ worth of damage to agriculture. These destructive rodents also cause significant damage to the home, leaving sickness on their trail. To keep the home or office clean, pests of all kinds have to be controlled.

Rodent control is comprised of different practices and methods to kill or keep rats, mice, gophers, and other destructive rodents away from a living space.

The Importance of Rodent Control

Maintain Health

The most important benefit of rodent control is better health. Rats and mice become carriers of certain diseases. In fact, rat infestation is the cause of Black Death in Europe during the Middle Ages. These diseases are carried from cockroaches to rats or mice. Rats and mice infestation can cause bubonic plague, Hantavirus, leptospirosis, Lyme disease, and favus. Keeping the home safe from diseases starts by eliminating pests within your living space. One way to do that is to call for rodent control. This is the most effective way to keep harmful rodents away from your home.

Protect Your Investments

As mentioned above, rodents cause millions worth of damages in homes and offices. Rats, in particular, will chew through and eat anything. That includes electrical wiring, appliances, clothing, etc. The animal’s feces and urine can also cause substantial damage to your home. Protect your home from damage by calling for pest control. Wiping out the rat population in your home gives you the peace of mind knowing that your home is protected.

Safety

Keep your home safe by getting rid of pesky mice and rodents away. Apart from causing structural damage, these pests could also attract preying animals into your property. Worse, the feces and urine of rats and mice could end up on your plate. Rodent control keeps a home or an office free from stubborn critters that affect its safety.

Rodent Control Tips

Targeting Rodents

Do note that there are over 2,000 species of rats, mice, voles, and gophers. Most of these pets adapt quickly to any environment. In fact, rats and mice are known for learning via trial and error so these critters are capable of learning different ways to outsmart a trap. To keep rodents under control, the methods you will use should correspond to a specific species.

Remove Water and Food Sources

One of the simplest ways to avoid attracting rodents in your home is to remove the animals’ food and water sources. Remove nesting materials, water sources, and travel pathways to discourage rodents from entering your property. Clean your property by removing clutter inside and out. Keep your lawn nice and trimmed to discourage rodents from nesting.

Lookout for Signs

To keep your home rodent-free, always keep an eye out for signs of a rodent infestation. If you are seeing rat droppings in certain spots of your home, start investigating. Other signs of a rat problem are: squeaks, odd rustling, and scampering sounds, pool or dried up urine, and signs of nibbled food. Grease marks, gnaw marks, holes in certain parts of the walls, and odd musky odors are other signs of a rat infestation.
