An over the range microwave oven is helpful in the kitchen but installing this may require your kitchen to have proper lighting and ventilation for the microwave itself. If you already have ventilation ready then all you need to do is install it but in case you don’t then hire someone to install it. Doing so will prevent fume leakage. In case you are looking for instructions on how you can install this microwave then here are the steps you need to take.
First of all gather all the things you need for the installation of the microwave. Here are some of the important materials that you should prepare:
Screwdrivers (depending on what you need), pencils, scissors, tin snips, electric drills, filler blocks or scraps of wood, saw, gloves, safety goggles, duct or masking tape and a level.
First of all turn off all the electricity in your kitchen. This will also prevent accidents while you are doing your project. Make sure that there is no power running to the range hood by switching it on. If it turns on then check the wirings and make sure that it’s turned off.
To begin with, find the mounting crews in your hood range. Unscrew them and take them off the wall and ceiling. If you have someone to help you do this then even better. It will make your work easier and faster if you have assistance but in case you’re doing this on your own then take it down one step at a time.
Pull the range hood away from the wall. Check and locate the wire end caps and with your screw driver, unscrew them so you can remove the entire hood range. With your pencil, measure the width and height of your microwave. Create a horizontal line on the wall while keep a space above the cooktop. Put a mark on the width of your microwave on the wall with two vertical lines. This way you know where the microwaves should be installed.
Find the studs in the area where you have placed your lines. Once you have located them, set the mounting plate on the wall and make sure that the mounting holes are positioned over the studs. Mark the spot. Drill pilot holes on the marks that you placed. Make sure to use a drill bit 1/8 inch narrow than the size of the mounting screws.
Once you have the holes, set the mounting plates. Screw it securely by placing the mounting screws through the holes. Place the microwave into the mounting plate. If you have an assistant, let him hold it in position so you can clip it in place. Make sure to connect the electrical wires with the microwave wires too. Put them in place the help of wiring end nuts.
Secure the microwave into place by bolting it in the mounting bracket. Once this is done, turn on the electricity and test if the microwave is properly working. Check also the ventilation and lighting in your kitchen.
Installing an over the range microwave should be easy but if you don’t want to do it on your own you can always hire professionals. However make sure to weigh the pros and cons first, after all you will be spending money on a simple installation. Do think about it before anything else.
