Having a fireplace at home can definitely help especially when it’s the cold season. That’s why it is best to keep your fireplaces clean and always ready to use. There are two types of fireplaces; gas-free and electric. Depending on where you are located and preferences, the choice of fireplace you like is up to you. For those who are living in the city but want a fireplace that does not include chopping up wood to keep warm, electric fireplaces is the answer to that.

What is an electric fireplace? How does it work?

An electric fireplace is just like your traditional fireplace. The only difference is it has fake logs and fake flames. It can also produce about 5000 BTUs of heat so you can say that it actually works like a real fireplace. Best of all it can be used by simply plugging it on an outlet. It’s also lightweight so you can place it anywhere you like.

Electric fireplace inserts

Electric fireplace inserts come in two types. It could be a fireplace package or as a log insert. When it comes as a package, it means that it comes with electric heaters, mantel piece, end table or another piece of furniture. The log inserts on the other hand are what they call as standalone units. This means that they are usually placed in existing fireboxes. They are also designed as replacements for gas or wood fireplaces if the owner wants a cleaner and simpler form of heat supply. They also come in different sizes; some are designed as piles of logs with others are designed to look like coals in a basket.

These electric fireplace inserts have dual voltage that allows them to be included in your home’s electric system if you wish to place it permanently. They are both great additions to your home and can be added to any room of your choice. However they do differ from the vent-free gas fireplaces. One is that electric fireplaces do not need any live flames to produce heat but gas ones do. They are also designed with materials that are safe for children so they stay cool to touch. They are entirely safe for the family and even if you have pets. They also come in many styles with awesome glowing ember just like the real fireplace that some people use. It doesn’t need to be cleaned at all times as you can just leave it. It’s easy to install and no need for regular maintenance. A gas fireplace on the other hand is a lot of work. Not only do you need to chop wood to build fire, you also need to make sure that it’s always dry and clean so proper fire and heat can be produced. It also needs gas so the fumes alone can tell you that it’s not always the ideal choice.

The kind of fireplace you choose is entirely up to your preference. Some people choose the electric ones for practicality but many are still using gas fireplaces because of the durability. Besides when electricity’s out, how can you use your electric fireplace? But whether you choose one over the other, the important thing is how it works. After all, keeping warm during winter season is main the reason why we need to use them in the first place, right? So choose well.
